Hobby Aqualon filter wool / floss are a very fine polymer woollen material with many overlapping fibres used to trap tiny particles of waste and debris to clean and clarify the aquarium water giving it very clear and fresh appearance.

The Hobby filter wool cannot really be cleaned out because of the material, and should be discarded each time you clean the filter out on average every four to six weeks
